From Learning to Launching: The Next Chapter of OneLife

Date

There is a unique kind of energy that fills the air when a community reunites. With the start of a new semester, that energy returned to our sites as our students and staff arrived back from Christmas break. Between the stories of home, the laughter of reunions, and the inevitable adjustment back to East Coast time zones and early breakfasts, one thing is clear: It feels so good to be back. This feeling of coming home is not just about returning to familiar places; it’s about reconnecting with people who have become like family. The relationships we build here are foundational, and they fuel our journey together as we embark on this new semester.

Reconnecting Through Community

We believe that growth happens best in the context of relationship. We intentionally kicked off the semester with community rhythms that allowed us to reconnect. From intense SkipBo marathons and surprise dog visits to the creativity of “Skits in a Bag” (the Bible edition!), we have all been reminded of the joy found in simply being together. These activities not only create laughter but foster deep connections, reminding us of the importance of community in our learning journey. They also help us to unwind and enjoy each other’s company, creating a supportive environment for the challenges that lie ahead.

Remembering Our “Why”

While the fun is essential, our first week back was also deeply intentional. We spent time together “Remembering our Why,” reflecting on how much the Lord has grown this group since they first arrived. This reflection period is crucial as it grounds us in our mission and reminds us of the transformative journey we are on together.

One of the most impactful moments of the week was our Community SWOT Analysis. By looking at our Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats, the students took real ownership of their community health. This analysis not only helped identify areas for improvement but also celebrated our successes, creating a balanced view of our community dynamics.

We also tackled modern challenges together by watching The Social Dilemma, which led to a thoughtful revision of our current technology policies. Together, we learned about the pervasive effects of social media and technology on our behaviors and relationships. We aren’t just following rules; we are learning together how to live wisely in a digital age, ensuring that we can navigate these complexities as informed and responsible individuals.

The Shift: The Semester of Launching

There is a specific theme for this semester that has us all excited: The Launch. This theme encapsulates our goal of equipping students to step out with confidence and purpose.

In the first semester, much of our focus is on learning—discovering what it means to be a follower of Jesus and a student of His Word. But the life of a disciple is not meant to stay in the classroom. It is about being equipped to go out and make a difference in the world. We emphasize practical application of our teachings, encouraging students to actively engage with their communities and embody their faith in real-world situations.

This semester, we are thinking with the end in mind. Our mission is to develop and launch servant leaders who live out their faith in every area of life. We are preparing these students for life after OneLife, ensuring they have the tools, the character, and the vision to be a light in their future workplaces, families, and churches. This involves not just academic and spiritual formation but also cultivating the soft skills necessary for leadership, such as communication, empathy, and resilience. We believe that a well-rounded leader is equipped to influence their surroundings positively.

Looking Ahead

As we settle back into our curfews and daily rhythms, our hearts are full of expectation. We are so excited to see how the Lord continues to foster growth in these students over the next few months. This semester promises to be a time of significant transformation as we embrace our theme of launching. Each student has unique gifts, and we are dedicated to helping them discover and develop these talents for their future endeavors.

Thank you for your prayers and support as we enter this “launching” season. We can’t wait to see where these next few months lead!
